Our friend Pete Buttigieg

David here. One of my oldest friends Pete Buttigieg is running for president in 2020. Honestly, it's still a little surreal to see Pete in the news. We met as political nerds in Washington D.C. in the spring of 2000 when we were both high school seniors. He's an exceptional person -- thoughtful, down-to-earth, intelligent, compassionate -- and it's hopeful for our country that someone like Pete has dedicated himself to public service.

We were honored to play Pete and his husband Chasten's wedding this past summer, and make a point to stop over to play South Bend every Midwestern tour. Staying connected to friends like Pete has been one of the many joys of a life on the road.

Pete may be a long-shot, but we're all better off if he's part of the national conversation about the future of this country. As a young veteran and a successful Midwestern mayor, he brings a much-needed perspective and voice to the race.

Listen to Pete's thoughtful conversation on 1A from yesterday or watch his appearance on Colbert to learn more.
